Terms of use
The agreement between you and us. Plain English on purpose — you should be able to tell what you are agreeing to.
In effect from 7 October 2026
1. Who you are dealing with
Household Budget is operated by Brett Clarke, trading as Household Budget (ABN 17 244 664 165). By creating an account you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
2. This is not financial advice
This is the most important clause here, so read it even if you skip the rest.
Household Budget does arithmetic on figures you give it and shows you the result. It is factual information and a calculator, nothing more. It is not financial product advice, and we are not licensed to give any.
- Nothing in the app takes account of your objectives, your financial situation or your needs, because it does not know them.
- It does not recommend products, lenders, insurers or investments, and never will.
- Its figures are projections from what you typed. They are estimates, not promises, and they are only as good as the numbers you entered.
Before making a decision that matters, check the figures against your actual bills and statements, and consider getting advice from a licensed financial adviser or a free financial counsellor. If you are in financial difficulty, the National Debt Helpline (1800 007 007) is free, independent and confidential.
3. Who can use it
You must be at least 18. The app works in Australian dollars and is built around Australian pay cycles, bills and expenses. You are welcome to use it from anywhere, but it is designed for Australian households.
4. Your account
- Use a real email address you can access — you will need it to reset your password.
- Keep your password to yourself, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has it.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One subscription covers one household. Sharing it with the people you actually live with is the point. Sharing it with anyone else is not.
5. Paying for it
- Free trial — 30 days, no card required. The whole app works during the trial, including exporting your data.
- Price — $11.99 a month, or $89 a year. All prices are in Australian dollars.
- Renewal — subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period. We will email you before an annual renewal.
- Cancelling — cancel yourself in the app, at any time, without emailing anyone or being talked out of it. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Price changes — if we change the price, we will tell you at least 30 days beforehand, and it will not take effect until your next renewal.
6. Refunds
If you are unhappy within 30 days of being charged, email us and we will refund it. No explanation required.
This sits on top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which we cannot and do not exclude. If the service is faulty you may be entitled to a repair, replacement or refund regardless of anything in these terms.
7. Your data stays yours
Everything you enter belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it, and you can export the lot to a spreadsheet whenever you like — during the trial, while subscribed, or after cancelling. What we do with it is set out in our privacy policy.
8. Using it sensibly
Please do not:
- Try to break into it, or into anyone else's household
- Scrape it, resell it, or pass it off as your own
- Use it to store anything unlawful
- Deliberately overload it
We may suspend an account that does these things. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first.
9. Availability
We work to keep the app running, but we do not guarantee it will always be available. It may be down for maintenance, or because something we depend on has failed.
If we ever discontinue the service, we will give you at least 60 days' notice, make sure you can export everything, and refund the unused part of anything you have paid.
10. Where our responsibility ends
The app is a calculator for figures you enter. We are not responsible for decisions you make, for figures you enter incorrectly, or for a bill arriving larger than you planned for.
Nothing here excludes the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law. To the extent the law allows us to limit our liability, it is limited to resupplying the service or refunding what you paid for it in the previous 12 months.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change affects your rights, we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the new version; if you would rather not, cancel and we will refund the unused part.
12. The legal bits
These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. If part of them turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
